Penang

The 80’s Guesthouse

I arrived at this hostel after a 5 hour bus journey from KL. I managed to find it, not far from the central bus station and was greeted by friendly staff. It is situated on a residential street but local shops and restaurants are within walking distance. I loved going round George Town, the capital of Penang where this hostel is central to all the street art, shopping centre, bus stop and restaurants that it has to offer.

The hostel is very clean and managed brilliantly. I stayed in a female dorm- has 4 to a room which is great! lockers are provided plus individual lights and sockets. I was able to borrow a converter plug from reception until I managed to buy one. There is also air conditioning in the room. The bathroom is downstairs, again very clean and hot showers! Large and well looked after.

What I loved most was the atmosphere – historic feel, old school bikes, posters and furniture- all goes rather well together. If that’s not enough then the staff are great- all of them are so helpful and friendly, give advice on what to see and how to get to places.

Finally the breakfast is good and you meet other backpackers! Very chilled out vibe.

I would defo stay again and recommend it, for the price you pay, it’s really worth it! you won’t regret it!
