Candi and Sidney host volunteers signed up for supporting orphans in Noordhoek. You2Africa have several different projects in Cape Town, from looking after children, surfing, skating and penguin rescue to name but a few. I emailed and signed up directly with Candi but most other volunteer come through You2Africa.
When I arrived at the house that Friday morning, I was greeted by Candi’s two dogs, Scruffs and Beauty. Candi’s home is beautiful and I instantly felt at ease. My first impression was what an amazing, cool, chilled, kind and caring women. Here she is, opening her home to volunteers from all over the world. Making each and every one welcome and supporting them through their experience. I think this is something quite remarkable and I don’t know how many people would be open to such an idea.
There was one other volunteer in the house, Hanna from Switzerland and she had three weeks left at the house before she left for New Zealand. As I had committed to volunteering for ten weeks, I was put upstairs in the loft, in Amy’s room (Candi’s daughter). This room has a beautiful view of Kommetjie. The house itself is situated about ten, fifteen minutes away from Masiphumelele, the local township where you volunteer. There is a corner shop less than a five minute walk away and a good pizza place.
Kindly note, the volunteer house has now moved to Capri, which is within walking distance to Masi. It is a beautiful home, more spacious and blessed. It is up in the mountain with spectacular views and along with the two dogs, there are also two turtles in the garden.
